I am looking to buy a detailed antique replica map of Long Island's Twin Forks. I want to frame it as art, but also to serve the purpose of a map too. (showing bodies of water, main roads, villages, towns, hamlets, etc.)I went to an antique store and for a replica they wanted $1000. I am looking to spend a lot less. I want a really large size about 5ft by 3ft in size (more or less). Anyone have any ideas where to search? Thanks!
You can find a wealth of replica antiquarian maps on ebay. Be advised that even replicas can still be quite costly, although $1000 seems a bit steep. You should also check with New York Public Library's Map Division. They're a wonderful resource for all things map related and have one of the finest collections in the world. They will also provide you with a high quality scan of most maps in their collection for about $30 which you can then take to a printer.
I'm a collector, and always happy to meet another enthusiast!

Thanks of the lead. If you can think of anymore please share!
Someone tried to make you pay too much. I paid a few hundred for a real vintage map of Southold a year or two ago from a place in NYC. I think you will find most of the maps are smaller than what you are looking for.
If you don't mind the rest of the island being included, this might work for you.

Great site! I was not going to pay 1g for a map. It was some homegoods store that wanted to special order the map for me and then frame it. Thanks for the lead!
