Stay updated with the National Hurricane Center.

I'm not too worried right now.

Check out this thread: //www.city-data.com/forum/conne...l#post15675876

The official NWS site seems to suggest it stay east of Long Island and New England, but the latest NHC map (which the OP of this thread posted) looks pretty threatening!

I'm here...doing my best to not confuse 18 Million of us :-). Commence pulling out hair in 3...2...1...

The most certain impact right now is the ocean beaches will take an absolute beating this weekend. 20ft surf is likely.

Beyond that, it's not really plausible (or responsible) to tell what the impacts on land will be. Ultimately...this(and nearly all) Hurricanes are pushed away from the east coast by cold fronts. There is one supposed to approach on Thursday night. If you look at the official track from the National hurricane Center (Hurricane EARL)...
the right turn between Thurs and Fri is due to the cold front approaching (there is a lot more physics going on but thats in a nutshell).

So...the tricky part is timing the front. If it gets here as expected, we get a heck of a lot of surf/beach erosion...but thats about it.

Looking at some maps it appears there's a small but sizable possibility of an eastern L.I. landfall......
