I dont believe for a second that these cameras and speed sensors are for our safety. It's all about raking in money. If it was really for safety, the best way to enforce it is with a cop, who will get the offender off the road. When you get a red light camera ticket there are no points as they dont know who was driving. If a cop issues a red light ticket the actual driver gets points on their license. Do it again, more points and your license is suspended.
As long as you can bank roll it, with the cameras you can run red lights and speed all you want. How is that effective safety?
Also there have been instances in other states where a road might have a speed limit of X, but the camera is set (by a private company) for to snap a picture at Y. The company gets money for every ticket so its in their interest to make sure this thing works. Usually people dont fight them. One woman got a ticket for speeding, and was mindful of her speed on that road, a week or so after , she gets another ticket. The town looked into the machine, and the company had the trigger point set about 10mph LESS than the speed limit.

Haven't seen any in Jericho...wonder why?
Jericho, syosset, woodbury, manhasset, roslyn heights and other elite north shore hamlets have almost no cameras. Whereas south of Jericho, every hamlet is becoming camera city. Even the villages on the south shore are surrounded by them on the outskirts. So the argument that N. shore is all villages and that is the reason there are no cams is a bunch of crap! Nassau Co. is not even disclosing the locations anymore.
Thanks a lot Suozzi and Weitzman for proving who you really worked for. And that is why they are no longer in office. Hopefully Mangano will make this system fairer when more people realize this..

Ever think it had to do with intersections that had the higher accident rates? I'm sorry I don't buy all this south shore vs north shore conspiracy stuff, and I'm in S. Farmingdale and spent basically my whole life in Massapequa. BTW, as part of his budget Mangano is planning on expanding the red light cameras in order to raise revenue.
