I seem to remeber some of the schools voting their district's budget down. According to this opinion, Long Islanders are just thrilled to get screwed every year. This is the biggest problem with our politicians. They are arrogant and so out of touch with the real population. The sheepal vote for the budget every year because that is the status quo. A large group of people don't vote at all. If a budget is initially voted down, the school board holds our children hostage by threatening to cut out extracurricular activities. Did you ever hear the argument by a school board member, "If you don't vote on our budget, we will have to lose 10 administrators or cut executive salaries?" NEVER. How can these arguments go unchallenged??
