Seems awfully low at 20% of credit. I believe it is 20% of
Expenses not to exceed 3000 per child or max. 1305*12)*.2

I wish. Its 20% of the 3k per child. and it is awfully low.
We utilize flex spending account (FSA), better than nothing, but realistically the 5k limit should be raised to be able to pay more of the actual costs of childcare..

Hosting an au pair could be a little more cost effective than daycare. The price is about $340 per week for 45 hours of childcare and that is per family NOT per child! You also get light child-related housework for that cost as well.

I would say we need a child care insurance just like we have health insurance. The company pays a percentage just like health insurance and we pay part of it we could use that insurance at any day care and I think this is how America will become more family friendly.

veve0308,

The problem with child care insurance is that people who are paying the premiums will most definately use it...with health insurance, its only usually used when you get sick... so there is some probability and thats how the ins company makes its money..... What we do need though is for the tax credit to be adjusted based on average cost of daycare in an area... for us in the NorthEast the current system doesnt help much.
