Hi,

I have not had a service contract for my gas boiler in a few years. I was thinking about taking out a service contract for it.

The boiler is about 7 years old.

Back in the day LILCO was the best. Then Keyspan took over the service division --> then National Grid ----> Turns out national grid sold the business to a company called homeserve energy services.

I don't know anything about this company but if you look in the contract there are a ton of exclusions. The old contracts for Keyspan hardly had any. I am wondering if I should look elsewhere for a contract and thought I would reach out to the readers of this board to see if anyone uses another company for their contract.

I just tried calling their phone number and there is no one there... not a good sign.

I though gas was so good and dependable that you don't need a service contract.

Actually that really is true.. I have not had one on several years. But hydronic heat is hydronic heat so if the circulator goes bad or an expansion tank needs to be replaced the system will shut down.

The last think you want is for the system to go down in the middle of the winter.

They only break down on the coldest day of the year around 2 or 3AM!

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but I was recently considering sigining up for Homeserve's service plan w/ annual tune up for my gas boiler. Haven't had it serviced since I moved in 7 years ago, and figured it might be a good idea to do so before something craps out on me.

Does anyone have any experience with Homeserve, or recommend another company that services Nassau?

Thanks!

I've had homeserve's service contract for the past few years and they do yearly tune-ups on my gas boiler and central a/c. I haven't had a problem with them but I've yet to have a breakdown so I can't give a grade on service calls.

I use Tragar Oil. They are based in Wantagh. Very happy with them. You can find out about their gas service here.

Is it necessary to service a gas boiler annually like you have to with a oil boiler? TIA.
