Not always. When they consolidate a lot of passengers onto an eastbound LIRR train with the intention that some of them will be switching for other trains in Jamaica, all the cars can get quite crowded.
It used to be that a train would meet another train from 1 other line at Jamaica and the trains would get full but not too crowded. These days I've been on trains that meet trains from 2 other lines and the train leaving Penn can be a rolling zoo.
Plus some station platforms aren't long enough, so some cars won't open at them and you can't sit way in the back of the train. For example, if you want to get off at Valley Stream you need to be in the head 8 cars because those are the only doors that make the platform. Most trains have 10 or 12 cars.
all true, however on the Long Beach line (especially the 5:55 the OP was referring to) the middle/back is empty regardless of connecting trains for a variety of reasons.
only if you insist on sitting in the first few cars. Plenty of room in the middle/back.
yeah but when you're rushing to make it and you have a minute to get on the train, you can't really oush yourself through when people are standing in the aisles. Alas, the problem.

then take the 6:13. The extra 18 minutes won't kill you and you'll have less stress in your life.
Why are Long Beach trains so dirty. I connect to one in the morning to go to Atlantic Terminal and the pigs that exit that train leave it a mess. Could it be a heavy sense of entitlement from the type of people who live in those communities served by that line.

how do you know it's dirtier than other lines? are you counting garbage? Inspecting the floors? All that leaning over can't be good for your hip grandpa...
Unless you have your head buried texting away to your fellow barista you should be able to notice the garbage you are leaving on the train. Of course, members of a certain group feel entitled to leave their garbage behind.

like I said, seats in the middle and back might not be convenient enough for some.

what group are you referring to? Send me a DM if it's something people will get annoyed about.
whatever the inconvenience might be, it can't be worse than standing for 50+ minutes.
I agree. I used to take that train and always went to the middle or towards the back just to avoid the cramped cars in the front.
