Thanks to all of those who responded to the original post. I suppose I should offer a little background info in order to draw out better neighborhood suggestions. I am a 30-something, single, black woman with no children (possibly in the future) and I make a pretty good living. I'm a blue collar girl with a white collar job. I work, socialize and maintain friendships with people of all races. I have always lived with, and would like to continue to live among, people who work hard for what they have and take pride in their neighborhood. I am in Queens often and I would like to keep that commute well-under an hour. Thanks again for your input.

BTW...How is the area in WH between Colonial Springs Road & Little East Neck Road & Ridge Road?

You will be a perfect fit for that area.

That part of Wheatley Heights is good. It has winding road's and is a cul-de-sac which in my opinion gives it a more upscale feel. I know some people in that area and they love it. All of Wheatley Heights is fine as long as you don't buy in the Wyandanch School District. Keep in mind that there is a huge cemetery adjacent to the area, so if you are single then idk, you might find it kinda creepy!

(If it is in the triangular area east of "Portland Way, south of Main Street and west of Straight Path then you are in the part of Wheatley Heights in the Wyandanch School District"; the remaining 99% of Wheatley Heights is in the Half Hollow Hills district. Maybe Walter Greenspan could give you a map of the HHH/Wyandanch School District boundaries.)

I gave a more in-depth post in the last Wheatley Heights questionif you are curious of my analysis of the area.

Thank you all. The cemetery won't creep me out too much, particularly if I'm not looking at it out of my bedroom window . WH made it to my list but higher in rank is Deer Park. I like the area and it offers more conveniences as far as shopping and day to day living is concerned. I know the school district is not as good as HHH, but it seems to be a pretty stable and decent neighborhood. Babylon Township offers me the most in terms of expressways to get me in and out of Queens easily; but I am really considering anything west of Hauppauge (where I work) that isn't too far north of the Northern State. I love the shopping areas east and west of Commack road on Jericho Tpke. so I am also considering places like Commack, Elwood, Greenlawn, etc. The jury still seems to be out on South Huntington.

First, among other things, the Census Bureau's online address search function also indicates in which school district an address is located.

Second, beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Half Hollow Hills Central School District includes all or part of the Hamlet of Dix Hills, the Hamlet of Deer Park, the Hamlet of Wheatley Heights, the Hamlet of Wyandanch, the Hamlet of East Farmingdale, the Hamlet of Melville, the Hamlet of West Hills and the Hamlet of South Huntington.

Third, beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Wyandanch Union Free School District includes all or part of the Hamlet of Wheatley Heights, the Hamlet of Deer Park, the Hamlet of West Babylon and the Hamlet of Wyandanch.

Commack and Elwood are nice areas but do you think you would feel comfortable living there as a minority? Not a lot of those areas have much exposure to diversity, you know.. I'm bringing this up because I believe in your last question you preferred a diverse area?

Just something to consider and take into account.
