Hello,

Just wondering if anyone knew of a good plumbing outfit to install a new water heater for me. I need a 50 gallon 40,000 btu water heater.. AO Smith or bradford white.

I am getting conflicting views on the price i received... $1350 & $1375 to replace my current gas water heater..

Also, do you think that 50 Gal 40K btu is enough for family of 4?

They are quoting me for a standard AO Smith (Promax)

I would start with the basics first...1) What type of heating system do you have? 2) How many bathrooms?

Off the top I would think a 40 gallon hw heater would be adequat for 4 people.

Have you gone to Lowes/Home Depot for a quote? How hard is the tank to reach to replace it?

I live in Roslyn, I have a gas heating system forced air furnace. 2.5 Bathrooms, 4 people, 2 of whom are children. Tank is easily accessible... right next to outside wall.

Never went to home depot.. just called a couple of plumbers.

I grew up in a family of 5, had a 40gal heater all the while, it was fine. They are relatively easy to install as a DIY project.

Go there. Report back to us what they quote you.

I had an electric 52g installed by Lowes about 5 years ago and it cost me less than $500 complete (outside NY rate).

I don't know what type of tank they are using, but looking at the Home Depot tank prices it seems they are charging nearly $1000 for labor. Here's a link that may be helpful:

A 40 gallon HW heater will be fine. I pesonally would go to Lowes or Home Depot and look at "40 gallon gas fired hot water heater" prices.
Buy it yourself then call around and tell them you already have the tank you just need it hooked up. If you are getting quotes more then $400 for just the install its to much.

Let us know how you make out.

I had one installed 7 years ago for less than $700, used Cornetta Bros in Elmont, not sure if they service Roslyn.
