I mean, I guess it's a possibility but wouldn't you think that if they were going to go as far as to lie and put so much effort into attending another School District that they would perform well?
You would think that would happen, and I hope it does in some cases if this type of thing is going to go on, but it doesn't in many cases.
It is probably their PARENTS that want them to go to a suburban school, not them.
As for statement #2, I don't get that. Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the PTA a "Parent and Teachers Association" which does not have any of the powers that a school board does and is engaged in other education related activities for their school?
If only those parents that had children attending schools within the school district could serve on the school board, you can bet the house on it that the PTA (backed by the teachers' union) would control which parents were elected to that school board.

You've lost me. The teachers' unions already control everything the school boards do when it comes to their contracts on Long Island. They don't care about anything else except "gimme gimme gimme MORE" so they don't bother trying to influence anything else the school boards do. That horse has already escaped the barn! As long as they get THEIRS before the kids do and the public cannot vote on what they get or how much they get, they are happy!
I also didn't say that "parents only" should be on the school boards. Neutral parties are welcome too! People whose kids are older and out of school or those with kids not in school yet or those who don't have kids should be able to serve also.
I just don't see how a school board that is majority controlled by people who actively shun public schools can do less harm than good to the public school system they have the majority over. It shows in Lawrence. Now look at the position their high school is in. Would you ever have dreamed that for Lawrence High School in the not so distant past?
See points 1 and 2 in my post #4 of this thread for Lawrence.
As for Middle Country, I am wondering that too ... what happened over there?
They both surprised me.Looks like its just the HS though.
