Subway is not the LIRR, it seems that this is eluding to the NYCTA subway station at 34 St - Pennsylvania Station. Remember that NYP is shared by LIRR, NJT, NYCTA, and Amtrak (which actually owns it all). But I'm sure that this is the LIRR's fault anyway.
Not only that, but there are two completely separate (IRT & IND) subway stations that are both called "34th Street - Pennsylvania Station" within Penn Station. The article never states which one they're talking about, nor do they say whether or not they're talking about number of incidents period or rate of incidents per rider (both are alluded to, but it's never definitively stated). The latter statistic would be more representative of how dangerous a station truly is.....however since the two Penn Station subway stops were ranked #5 & #6 busiest last year, I have a feeling they only considered total number of incidents and combined them.
Considering that these stations have had a massive police presence since 9/11 and are packed nearly 24/7, I find it very hard to believe that they're the most dangerous subway stops on the entire system. And like you said.....it's not even the LIRR!!
I'd be curious to see actual stats for the most dangerous LIRR stations. I'd be shocked if it isn't one of the ones in Brooklyn (East New York, Nostrand Avenue....)

I've waited at both of those stations and never had a problem. I've felt more unsafe at Bay Shore . The underpass is a safety issue. I have been attacked and robbed by the Wantagh station but it was because I let my guard down when I waited there. I would have never done that at Freeport. Just because a town is nice doesn't mean its train station is so safe.
I'm in LIRR Penn Station everyday. If you consider more dangerous being in area where its more possible for petty theft to happen rather than violent crime then yes Penn Station may be more dangerous.
Penn Station has about 40 cops and 20 army men standing around patrolling. It's highly-trafficked of course, but i feel it's very safe. I have a hard time believing that the LIRR is most unsafe. I hate the LIRR but I wouldn't say it's unsafe.

Agreed, I hate how crowded Penn is all the time. But I rather have very crowded than alone in a station with a homeless person sleeping on the bench.
Its not that bad...Just ignore the people asking for Money
I think they made a mistake....maybe they were referring to NJ Transit's Penn Station in Newark........now that place is the pits.
Got any change, got any change?
