We compost.

Spread out a big 10'x20' sheet of poly, rake leaves onto it, drag to a
8'w x 5'd x 4'h chicken-wired pen and dump. It's overflowing by the time the trees are bare but in the Spring it's only about 3'.

Mix in grass clippings from mowing the lawn and it's pretty well composted by the time the leaves start dropping again. The only real problem is oak leaves have a lot of tannin in them which slows the decay rate compared to most other leaves.

Much faster with the tarp - thanks for the idea.
I improvised to make a compost site, but most of the trees are majestic oaks, and probably the leaves will not degrade too much.
The reason I have not done composting before is that I thought it had to be a better controlled process... Have read that one needs to add "healthy human urine" or other degradation-enhancers .
Wonder if just grass and oak leaves will work at all, or just be a stack of leaves in the wooded area in the back yard...

Anyone have some spare leaf bags?

We only get 20, and I need 100+ (A dozen huge oaks and some miscellaneous smaller trees...)
