Okay, I know this type of thread's been done before, but maybe I wasn't around to see it or new stuff has surfaced. What's good on LI lately? I'll throw a couple up and let you add some stuff. Duplicates are okay, list it even if it's already on here.
-The Bagels
-The Pizza
-BH Deli's
-The Beach -day or night
-Tree lined streets
-Relatively well kept / clean /safe neighborhoods
-Nice Housing stock
-The Water
-Apple / Pumpkin picking
-Street fairs every weekend in the summer
-Loads of good parks / Family oriented
-Breadth of Restaurants & shopping
-The Diners
-Everything's convenient / ease of access / close to NYC / good jobs
-Things move at an ideal / 'optimistic' pace
-Block Parties / BBQ's
-Bike rides on a warm breezy late afternoon
-Schools are good but $$$
-(This one may shock some people) I think the people here are great. I know Southerners lump NJ, NY & MA into one category "'dem damn Northerners'" but I personally think people on LI are more down to earth/flexible/easy to relate to/easy to get along with that most of the country.
That's all I have for now. Hopefully this will balance out all the negative threads on this board lately.

As someone who recently relocated here due to my career, the career opportunities being part of the metro-NYC area are amazing.
As for something LI specific - boating/fishing. I cannot wait for this spring/summer.

Watch out for the Moritches if you don't take the sea lane and stay in the inland waterway. There are locks there and it's all slow going. I have gone over for the last few years from Mystic CT and it's great on either fork. The Hamptons, the wineries, and the produce. I swear by their potatoes from August on...none better.
You mention the beach which brings up a point. A good portion of the year the beach is completely useless on Long Island and others places in the NE.
Maybe for you which is the way many winter beach goers like it. The surfing is great. You can fish on nice days. And walking is great exercise as well. So if you call that useless, so be it.
Another positive about Long Island, and something I hope to really take advantage of, is the ease with which one can travel having a large international airport, a large American travel airport, and a smaller airport all within an hour and 15 minutes of eachother. Travel is a much easier process than where I came from, which included a longer drive to an airport that usually required layovers.
