One of my coworkers sons was hired right out of Hofstra by Kirkland & Ellis in their Restructuring Division. He actually managed to get several high profile internships via the school, which is probably what got him the job.

I do agree with most of what you said though. Earlier in the thread, I made reference to the fact that Hofstra (which isn't cheap) might not be the best choice for students looking to break into the media industry (my semi-former industry), especially those who don't have connections. You can distinguish yourself anywhere - but their is still a clubby aspect to schools and industry.

It is too bad that this thread has veered so off-topic that the OP was too scared to ever respond. I wonder if she ever did visit Hofstra.

Hofstra is ranked as a TierIII school. They have tried to make it a more well-known school by having the recent gubernatorial debates, as well as the Obama-McCain debates, held at the school. Jimmy Fallon just performed there in honor of the 75th anniversary celebration that the school has been holding this year. The other recent news regarding Hostra is the opening of the new medical school and the closing of the football program. It is a private school, and therefore more expensive than most in-state tuitions at public universities, but it is still cheaper than NYU or Columbia. They keep adding new builidings which is taking away parking spaces and the former openess of the campus.
