is this normal in Brentwood? I've never seen this anywhere else on LI.
I'm a mailman and I went to Brentwood yesterday to work and I was shocked to see chickens/rooters just roaming free on someone's front lawn....I saw this on 2 different occasions yesterday. Is this even legal?

"Little Jerry" immediately popped into my head when I read this. One of my favs!
We have this in Stony Brook and Setauket, too. My chickens would usually stay in the back in their area, but occasionally would free range into the front. We have clients up on the water and friends north of 25A who have chickens (and other fowl) in their yards. It's great to have fresh eggs.
Could it be at all possible the folks in Brentwood are doing the same or are you trying to slam the area because people own chickens?
I have no problems regarding people owning chickens i just have never seen them roaming free on the front lawn. they weren't fenced in or anything. like stray dogs but chickens. I thought that was very weird and possibly against the law.
Im almost positive it is illegal in the Town of Islip, Newsday has had a few articles about this issue over the years. I think it's pretty obvious why the Town dosent enforce the laws ... because they are being broken by the chosen ones. Heaven forbid they be offended.
Although illegal in the town of Islip, it isn't really a major deal to get worked up on. Unless your a chicken hater. There are plenty of people that don't own chickens in brentwood. There are some who do. Not all of them are Spanish.
