Hi:

We just saw a listing online in the Hamlet of Woodmere (thanks Walter) in the Meadowmere Park area. Does anyone know this area well enough to say it's safe or what. I know this is on the water with older homes, and it's obviously not part of a $1 mil. neighborhood there. The listing read as follows:

Handyman Or Investor's Special! Waterfront Home On Cove Near Close To Bay In Lawrence Sd#15. Quiet Residential Block In Meadowmere Park - Lawrence Sd#15. Short Sale Being Sold In As-Is

Also, any reason to stay away from short sales. I know what they are but not in detail enough.

Thanks for all your help on this forum.

I would avoid the Lawrence school district. Hewlett Woodmere is a better choice. JMHO.

Another thread posting from a NYS website or news article that one of Lawrence's schools is on its problem list. DM Crookhaven, he posted the information.

Lot of the local kids are being sent off to yeshivas and as such do not want to pay the taxes to keep the SD up-to-par.

Default A map of the Hamlet of Woodmere in the Town of Hempstead, Nassau County

It would appear that the Meadowmere Park neighborhood in Woodmere is at the end of the "crooked finger" extending from the west part of Woodmere that is in the part of Woodmere that has a "Lawrence, NY 11559" mailing address.

A map of the Hamlet of Woodmere in the Town of Hempstead, Nassau County:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/cd/Woodmere-ny-map.gif (broken link)

The Hamlet of Woodmere has a different border than does the "Woodmere, NY 11598" ZIP Code postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Woodmere, NY 11598" mailing address and not be in the Hamlet of Woodmere and a place can be in the Hamlet of Woodmere and have other than a "Woodmere, NY 11598" mailing address): places that have a "Woodmere, NY 11598" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Woodmere are in the Village of Woodsburgh and the Village of Hewlett Neck; and, at the same time, there are places in the Hamlet of Woodmere that have a "Lawrence, NY 11559", "Hewlett, NY 11557", "Cedarhurst, NY 11516" and "Valley Stream, NY 11581" mailing address.

Schools added, taken off 'needs improvement' list

Lawrence and Middle Country were the big surprises as I recall but ask some locals.
