Hi, I'm cleaning out my home in anticipation of all the new junk -- eh, toys -- Santa will be bringing soon. I have a number of toys that the kids have outgrown but are still in great condition. I don't want to throw them out but some of the local charities I contacted won't take them. Anyone have any ideas of specific organizations that will take them? Thanks in advance.

Don't know where you are located.
You could call Family Service League (631.427.3700). They help families in need with clothing and food and I'd imagine they'd take toys as well. They have locations in Huntington, Bay Shore and Riverhead (maybe more?)

If all else fails, you can always post them on The Freecycle Network - a national organization with chapters in Nassau County, Western and Eastern Suffolk County. It's meant to keep usable items out of the landfills and at the same time benefits the recipients. You'd have plenty of people willing to come get the toys!

The Ethical Humanist Society used to take stuff and give it away to people in need. They are on Old Country Road in GC.

Most churches and synagogues will also accept them.

I bet women's shelters would take them.
