"One of the jobs in question is that of a police-range officer -- a uniformed police officer who is paid $190,000 a year for sitting at the firing range."
This is ridiculous and is widespread through both counties. Can you imagine the 'deficit footprint' (if you include the luxury benefits/pension packages) jobs like this are leaving on taxpayers & future taxpayers alike... Our kids are gonna be slaves due to corruption like this.
The best thing you can do is support Levy and talk rationally amongst your neighbors and friends about this situation. Don't let conversations turn into PBA talking points or a diatribe on Levy's sexuality or his wife.
The simple fact is we pay way too much for the the police in Suffolk, whether it be through wasteful use of manpower as he's indicating here, or simply paying them far more than is needed to field good candidates.
Clerical positions should be filled with civilians to get more police on the street. A police officer should support this since more police on the street improves safety and spreads out the work load. Don't become a police officer if you don't want to do police work.
Jobs like Range Officer and a few others within the precinct should only be done by police, but they are small in number.
