He got light sentence to begin with and now this?
A grown man should have known better than to confront anyone outside of his home. His first recourse should have been to remain inside and await the police. Had those kids entered his home, his actions may have been justified if his life or that of his family was in danger.
Yeah, I'm sure if a bunch of black/brown 17-18 year olds showed up outside a white guy's home, threatening his son and family you would be singing a different tune.

I'm white and I agree with you 100%. This punk thought he was a tough guy and got what was coming to him. If I were on the jury John White wouldn't have been convicted.
So this "kid(s)" - I mean THUGS - call John White house several times threatening his son; then shows up at his house almost at midnight; Mr. White asks him to leave; Mr. White has a gun; the THUG is giving the impression that that he is not leaving and is loudly violent; THUG get shots; THUG is killed.
Good riddance. From what I have seen this THUG and his family were all cut from the same cloth.
Why am I not surprised that Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota issued "a blistering response in a statement, saying: "I strongly believe the governor should have had the decency and the compassion to at least contact the victim's family to allow them to be heard before commuting the defendant's sentence".
I love those last-letter-vowel-last-names that are so ubiquitous on trashy Long Island.
I would need to know more about this story other than what the knee jerkers are telling me. Did the kid threaten to come in the house or make any attempt to break in? If you're just standing outside someone's house you are not an imminent threat and being shot seems like excessive force. If the guy just came out and started blasting because the kid mouthed off, he should still be in jail. But again..I don't know enough about the case.

Who did the thug assault?
Who did the thug harm?
Did the thug have a history of harming innocents?
Was Mr. White being dragged out of his home?
Was Mr. White assaulted?
Did Mr. White call the police?
No. He shot a person who was outside of his home. There was no real threat to Mr. White, he is a murderer.

This story is over 4 years old. Goggle it, and you will find the details. This "kid" made a bunch of bad choices that lead to bad result.
