My husband and I (and our 9 month old!) are ready to head out of the city and out to LI. We are working w/ a budget of $900K (for a home that needs cosmetic work) to $1.2M(move-in-ready). (We are expecting taxes to run anywhere from $15K to $25K depending on the home.) Here is what we are looking for:

- GREAT public schools
- more than .25 of an acre lot size
- less than 60 minute train to nyc
- cute nearby town/village
- min of 4 bed/2.5 bath
- Jewish community center and/or temple nearby

Any suggestions for where we should focus our search??????? Any and all info/suggestions are welcome!

According to the LIRR schedule, Cold Spring Harbor is just under 60 min to Penn Station; it's also a convenient station (if you leave early, you can park very close to the platform, which is great in inclement/cold weather!) and seats are available when you get on in the morning!

Property size......................check
Great schools......................check
Train ride (see above).............check

Cute nearby town/village:
(Cold Spring Harbor+Huntington)....check
Min 4 Bed/2.5 baths................check
JCC and/or temple (in Huntington)..check
Taxes..............................check
Price range (currently)............check

A bit far from the LIRR and no "cute nearby town/village"... Otherwise, it would be a "go"

No "cute nearby town/village". Of course "nearby" can be relative

As much as I love Babylon, there are a few things on the list that may not work for the OP...

Port Washington is another good option, however!

P.S.: Although you've got to watch the property size there :-(
