I think for the MOST part, the houses in Bellmore are nicer. Of course there are some nice ones in Seaford as well.
Schools in Bellmore are better, I know many people in Seaford who send their kids to St. William's. I also think as a town, Bellmore, overall, is a tad bit nicer.
I am also thinking about moving to Bellmore. Need more detail info on schools, safety, community...
For those who may not be familiar with Bellmore:
Bellmore is a hamlet (an unincorporated area) in the south section of the Town of Hempstead, in the central-south part of Nassau County.
Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Bellmore in the Town of Hempstead is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of North Bellmore; on the east by the Hamlet of Wantagh; on the south by the East Bay; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Merrick.
Bellmore is one of those villages and hamlets on Long Island where the majority of the places with the community name in their mailing address are not in the hamlet: places that have a "Bellmore, NY 11710" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Bellmore are in the Hamlet of North Bellmore, the Hamlet of Merrick and the Hamlet of Wantagh.

I've heard some very nice things about Merrick and Wantagh; not so much praise about Bellmore or Seaford. Not necessarily bad things, but just that they were nothing to write home about. However, Bellmore does seem to have more going on, and going for it, than Seaford.
I grew up in the area - I never thought there was that big of a difference between Merrick, Bellmore, Wantagh, or Seaford. Home prices, taxes, schools, commute, demographics, etc... are all pretty much the same.

I thought the same too but if you look closely, parts of Bellmore are not so hot anymore. Not "really" bad but not so good. There has be talk of some gang activity that ended up with someone getting shot last summer. A friend of mine ownes a store on Newbridge and has problems with a crack house across the street! Makes me sad to hear these things.
I also heard cops are working hard now to clean it up. I hope they do.....
Bellmore has gotten more "towny" with a street fair and some good restuarants.
I always liked Wantagh....felt like more things were happening.

Might that store be in North Bellmore?
