How in the world are people making under $250,000 breaking the economy?
The rich have stolen 40 cents of every dollar in the economy and want more

Take a good look at your tax bill and see where the robbery is. Your school district makes up 60% of your total taxes !! THAT's where you should be SCREAMING !!!!

......and it's NOT the teachers salaries either, it's the ADMINISTRATORS ! Those people are the ones killing the tax payers on L.I. Are they going to risk their lives for you? Nope, not a chance in hell.

You can be mad at the cops but, you should start with the schools. That's where the robbery begins.

When you have enough of these cops making $150k a year (that's the average here on LI) and then going on to collect over $100k in pensions for 35 years along with free medical/dental/vision for life, they can and do break the back of the local economy. But let's face it, with your hyperbole and nonsense statements, you aren't here to have a rational discussion, you are here to further your anti-wall street agenda.

Contract negotiations are just that, negotiations...or do you *really* think a politician's word has any "intrinsic value" either? The easiest way to get anything is to ask, not issue fiats. Simply put, if the county, or any bargaining agency want to renegotiate, it has to start by asking.
Good PR can potentially have plenty of value for the unions. If the perception exists that the union cares about the community and is flexible and willing to sacrifice for the community, the CE isn't under as much pressure to squeeze the union. If the perception is that the union is greedy and money hungry and doesn't care for the community, the CE will face pressure from the people to squeeze the union.

It really isn't (or shouldn't be) a very difficult concept to grasp. I sure hope you work for the PBA (in marketing).

Sing it!

Haters are going to hate. They won't be happy until everyone is as miserable as they are, and even then, they'll be complaining when they can't find Serpico.

There obviously is a lot of misery on these boards.

Back to the topic at hand - the greedy Nassau County PBA is fighting having their pay frozen for 1 year, while so many of us in the private sector haven't had a pay increase in 3-4 years. And we are lucky to even have a job. The NCPD on the other hand cannot take a pay freeze with taxes sky high and the economy still weak.

Shame on the PBA.

I think you should understand the system of taxes we have in this country before posting. Because you do realize that 90% of the taxes collected come from only 10% of the wage earners. Theres another thread on it some where around here.

Actually its everyone in the SD's and PD's that have gotten the free gravy train up until the whole meltdown actually causing people to stop and look where there now median ~$9,000/yr in property rent (I mean taxes) is going.

And it is the teachers because around 30% of them are pulling in 6-figure salaries plus a darned good benefit schedule.

I found out that there was actually an officers union when the lab supervisor was removed, the other is the PBA anyone know who is the third? I didn't realize there were 3 police unions, is there anyone in the police force not a member of a union?

The case, Meegan v. Brown, dealt with the city of Buffalo’s own wage freeze placed on employees by its financial watch group, the Buffalo Fiscal Stability Authority, from 2004 to 2007.
Once salary increases were unfrozen in July 2007, union leaders expected their members to receive four step increases, one for each year the freeze had been in place, but the city responded saying employees were only eligible for one increase.
