If you really believe that, then I suggest you refrain from calling 911 when you need help for yourself.

Ever.

Ever.
What does it cost the govt' to respond to a single 911 call, assuming they do respond, which they are not legally required to do, and how does this compare to an individual's police district property tax.

Ah. Here we go. Exactly what I expected. See the debate about the ad a few pages back. The portion of your property tax bill that goes toward police is tiny. So, you might want to get your premise right, first.

Thanks for playing. I've got dinner in the oven. Have a lovely night.

The cost of 1 911 response is minimal compared with the monies paid in taxes by each taxpayer... It has to be otherwise the government would have been bankrupt and this country run amok years ago. The law of large numbers plays a role here. Some people are very confused

The police property tax may be tiny; the library property tax may be tiny; the fire district property tax may be tiny; the water district property tax may be tiny; the park district property tax may be tiny; the parking district property tax may be tiny ... etc., etc., etc. ... but, when you add them up, the total is not so tiny, is it?

Some people only see a rent bill and are clueless about property taxes, they just know that they have loved ones who benefit from them.

The total tax hit from police is not tiny if you combine sales tax, county portion of property tax, and property tax strictly for police. In Suffolk Police tax is anywhere from 10-15% of your property tax, plus an additional 23% out of the county tax revune which includes sales tax and the county portion of property tax. The total hit to every Suffolk taxpayer is very high to make sure 2500 people are very well off. I'm sure the numbers in Nassau are similar.

Phone, heat, electric, gas...

What is your point? You are paying for a service that you benefit by. You can always move somewhere cheaper if it's too expensive for you. Neither a house nor a desired location are entitlements in this country. I'd love to live in Beverly Hills but I can't afford it. Oh well.
