Long Island is a tremendous island with around 7.5 million people. It's hard to offer you recommendations about an area to live in when we know nothing about your age, socioeconomic background, what you like to do for recreation, if you have a family/children, etc.

There is a LOT of country between LA and LI - why have you focused on LI? Do you have friends/family/work here?

Natural disasters are pretty limited here. The occasional hurricane comes this way - but we have not had a major one since the late 1930's I believe. Some snow - if that's your cup-of-tea - and the occasional heat-wave in the summer - overall weather-wise - it's pretty calm.
We had a major one in 2012 - did you forget how much damage Sandy did?

Personally i lived in bethpage since i was ten but then moved to North Carolina. I would live to live back in NY when i get my License in Cosmetology. I was wondering if apartment cost would be to expensive, Unless you get a roomate of course.
