I am interested in applying for jobs with Nassau County. I can't find any job listings on the official Nassau County government web site. Where's the best place to look for these jobs?
Can't answer the first part but im pretty sure they mostly hire from the lists. Once you take the test and and a list is established they will send you a canvas letters in the mail from the various agency's that are hiring. If its for a school district you will get priority in the district where your reside. Its also based on how well you did on the test.
Some Villages like Freeport will make you move there within six months of taking the position..
Civil Service.
Good luck.
Even the lowest paying crap jobs are in high demand.
I've taken quite a few tests over the past few years and the lines have been out the door, down the block, and around the corner. You'd better score in the upper 90's if you even want a remote shot at getting the job. And it usually takes a few years from test to hiring and actually going to work.
SUNY colleges sometimes hire without lists depending on the position. The colleges on the island are Nassau CC, Empire State, Farmingdale, Old Westbury, Suffolk CC and Stony Brook.
You can also try Incorporated Villages. Again, might be tough because they are usually in cahoots with each other only hiring family and friends but it's another avenue to try. Worth a shot perhaps.
Hospitals too, many offer pay and benefits equal to that of Civil Servants all kinds of openings too from maintenance, clerical, security, etc...not just medical stuff
