My favorite part of the entire NYS teaching certification system is that someone with 20 years in business is somehow not qualified to teach a business class in HS, but can teach at Yale/Harvard. I love the 22 year old business teacher who's knowledge is limited to his/her summer job's experience.

It has to be a masters in education, doesn't it? How many credits is that 20?

Something you have to understand is that teaching high school students is very different than lecturing at a college. The content element is not nearly as important as the ability to control a classroom as well as engaging students and having a strong questioning technique.

Is that so? Using your criteria above, we can terminate more than 50% of all high school teachers since they are unable to control the "wilderbeests" in their classrooms.

This is incorrect... but it's quite fashionable to throw out statements without any knowledge of the situation around here in attempt to rake muck.

It's a legitimate question - since you say 20 isnt' the right number, can you please tell me and the general public at large just how many credits are required for a masters in education?

The minimum number of credits for any US masters degree is 30.

OK, 2.5 of Stony Brooks 6-in-6 summer class schedules. Or just a little over 1 of my overload semesters.

It also does not -need- to be a Master's Degree in education. That is a fallacy, and plenty of quality teachers work with two degrees in their related subject area- so long as they meet the requirements for state certification.
