I think if you have a turret on a high ranch it will look much better, also. But I get your point.

Right. Even a well maintained triple decker WITHOUT a fancy victorian turret looks pretty bland and ugly.

Why I oughta smack ya!

The gingerbread on the porches helps -- with or without turret.
Turret on a high ranch is...do we need to go back there?

For those who want more info on triple deckers.

People who want to leave generally rationalize their decision any way they can. If you honestly believe LI is somehow unique and a money sucking dark cloud has desended upon us all I can say is "Enjoy France".
I'm with ZILLA. As soon as people leave LI, that is the year it went "down the tubes" and suddenly became more expensive and overcrowded.

I know I am planning on leaving next year. After 25 years here, its been good to me. But in the past few years it seems as if the quality of life just isnt here for me anymore.

Taxes have gone up, insurance costs have gone up, we are getting less and less for our dollar. There is only so much a middle class family can take.

France is low COL?? good luck with that.
25 years here and your taxes, insurance have just now gone up? That's why we have a sticky thread at the top of the LI forum to discuss high taxes and solutions to it (it's currently on lockdown though)... but what amazing QOL was there in Medford to begin with is what I'd like to know. I just don't get the entire middle of Suffolk (minus the shores), I'd rather live elsewhere too, I don't blame you on that aspect.

Now that two out of my three are in college, I travel a lot more now(to visit). I never realized how old and worn things look around here until I come back. I don't remember it looking this dirty and overcrowded but then again I didn't travel much back then. So I guess traveling to other parts of the country could be a real eye opener.

Don't confuse the out-of-state ticky tacky blow down in a hurricane construction as being anything more than new and clean.

Pequaman...yeah, I don't get the middle of Suffolk either...too many Nascar afficiandos there...and other miscreants.

It's because it's too expensive to do anything here, plus you get punished with Property Taxes if you use good material, so people are starting to use that fake stucco (fucco) and plastic fences.

Exactly. I've traveled a fair bit, all across the country. I've seen worse, but I've seen much better. And after you actually live somewhere clean and well-maintained, then come back, the contrast is that much worse.
