Women is driving home and sees decorative helicopter display at Gabreski Airport, pulls over to take a picture to post online.
Cops come, take camera.
Woman is detained for 6 hours without food, water, or restrooms.
Illegal search of car, they find a gun in a locked case which is unloaded. (she had come from the range).
Woman arrested, take to hospital where two deputies watch her disrobe.
Lots of other bits, but no real stories that I can see, no uproar, no support for this woman who was doing nothing illegal.

And a $60 million dollar lawsuit for the taxpayers to pay that will be such a guaranteed loser for the government even a bottom-feeding freelance attorney from HofsTTTra Law can litigate it. Lovely, just lovely.
Quote:
Nancy has filed a Federal Lawsuit seeking up to 60 million dollars from the Town of Southampton, the County of Suffolk, Lieutenant Iberger, Undersheriff Caracappa, Deputy Carlock, Lieutenant Leuete, and various other employees of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department. The lawsuit is still ongoing.
Oh no. This thread is negative against one of our county jails and their employees. How dare you bring it up? You will definitely be wearing at the C-D Meet and Greet. I will bring the stickiest roll of duct tape I can find and personally muzzle you.
Don't act like an emotionally disturbed person around a military installation.
Probably wasn't a good Idea to have a long rifle and shotgun with 500 rounds in the car also. May want to keep those at home.
bino's, numerous appearances, asking questions about base activities, and acting like a fool....
Kudo's to the cops.
Dan's Papers - August 7, 2009 - STALKING GABRESKI WITH AMMO & MACHINE GUN (http://www.danshamptons.com/content/danspapers/issue20_2009/06.html - broken link)
What the heck is wrong with you? There was nothing illegal about what she did, she had no malicious intent, and what are you babbling about with the gun. How am I supposed to hit the range if I can't have a rifle and ammo in the car?
Let's see what some of our "favorite" civil servants are up to this time ...
Okay I am going to quote some bits from the blog post. Now what have our feckless public servants in Suffolk done that is worth $60,000,000.00?
Harrassment:
Quote:
Members of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office used Nancy’s leg wound as another object to taunt her with, telling her that they were going to arrest her for an unreported knife wound.
During the remainder of the six hours that Nancy Genovese was forcibly detained on the side of the road, she was taunted, verbally harangued, threatened, belittled, abused, humiliated and harassed by members of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office. For example, Deputy Carlock repeatedly referred to Nancy as “a right winger” and “tea bagger”, and threatened that they were going to arrest her for terrorism to make an example of her to other “tea baggers” and “right wingers”.
Stealing approximately $8000 in cash:
Quote:
Before placed in handcuffs, Nancy attempted to give her purse containing her wallet and cell phone to her sons. Her wallet contained approximately $13,000 in cash, money she was holding to pay tuition that day for her son’s college and her daughter’s Catholic school tuition. Deputy Carlock refused to allow her sons to take her bag, and ordered her to leave it on the front seat of her unlocked vehicle, even after being informed of the value of its contents. When Nancy’s sons objected, Deputy Carlock threatened to arrest them if they touched it, and ordered them to leave the scene. Not knowing what to do, they left.
When Nancy’s sons responded to a call from the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office in the early morning hours to pick up their mother’s vehicle from the roadside, they found $5,300 of the $13,000 missing. The money was never returned.
Threats:
Quote:
While in a holding cell, Deputy Carlock continued to verbally harass Nancy, telling her “you will pay”, and admitting that they had nothing to charge her with, but that he would “find something in order to teach all right wingers and tea baggers a lesson.”
Ogling Her Partially Nude Body:
Quote:
A sonogram was performed on Nancy’s left leg from her ankle to her inner groin, requiring her to disrobe. Despite her and the doctor’s request for them to turn away, the two male Suffolk Deputies insisted on staring at Nancy while she disrobed, further humiliating her.
Denied Proper Medical Care:
Quote:
Once back at the jail, the Suffolk County Sheriffs denied her access to her antibiotics, and denied her proper care of her leg wound. This caused a serious and painful staph infection to develop.
Subjected Her to Maniacal Driving:
Quote:
Nancy was transported in handcuffs and ankle shackles, with no regard for her ankle wound, to the Southampton Justice Town Court. The driver drove fast and recklessly, intentionally making abrupt turns and laughing. This caused Nancy, who was not secured by a seatbelt, but was instead restrained with her hands cuffed behind her and her ankles cuffed together, to roll about in the back of the vehicle, further exacerbating her leg injury. When she requested that the Deputy Sheriffs secure her with a seatbelt, they laughed at her, and the driver continued to recklessly swerve the vehicle.
Treated Like a Crazy Person:
Quote:
put on a “suicide gown”, consisting of a heavy, jacket-type blanket that fastens around the body with Velcro. Nancy was not permitted to wear undergarments under the blanket. Nancy was required to wear this same “suicide gown” for the next several days. After three days, Nancy was evaluated by a psychiatrist who determined her to be of sound and stable mind, and immediately removed her from suicide watch
Thank you again, our fine civil servants for all that you do and the extra $60 mil the taxpayers will have to come up with!

LOL..Seriously?
lets stop at the military base with a car full of weapons and ammo and ask a bunch of questions and take pictures from different locations around the perimeter and see what happens.

And of course, this is on an attorney's blog.
How about you post the actual coverage, and not the opinions of someone who stands to profit off of similar lawsuits?

Relevant snippets bold-face type mine:
A Quogue woman remained in custody Monday on a trespassing charge after law enforcement officers found a shotgun, an assault rifle and a cache of ammunition in the front seat of her car, parked just outside the grounds of the Air National Guard base in Westhampton Beach, authorities said.
Then:
Genovese was seen at the air field taking pictures on previous occasions over the past few weeks and was warned to stay away, said Undersheriff Joseph T. Caracappa.
On one of those prior occasions, "She had wandered on the property, looking around, and was approached by staff at the Air National Guard," Caracappa said. "She was asking them about containers on the property, and they said, 'We can't tell you that,' and asked her to leave."
In other words, she was behaving suspiciously on the grounds of a military installation.
In what post-9/11 world is it okay to drive around a military installation during war-time with weapons and ammo, and then to keep coming back after you've been asked to leave?

Misunderstanding? What, she can't read?
Major Williams pointed out that signs located next to the helicopter read “the use of cameras or video equipment is prohibited,” and explained that the ANG prefers that no one take photos of the base. He said that if anyone is caught taking photos without prior permission, they will be questioned by base officials.
Then they told her right to her face to stay away!
But hey, if you want to use blogs for your pro-Beck agenda, I can use blogs for my anti gun-nut agenda:

Yeah. She had to be held for psychiatric observation after going bonkers in the courtroom. There's a cache to her MySpace page there, too. Move along now. Nothing to see here but another militia mama who doesn't like that she can't spy on her own country's military.
Oh, and I_Love? Her suit is over wrongful arrest, not treatment at the jail. Do some research before you start trying to stir a pot.

If the taxpayers end up paying for this, it's because the town screwed up by not responding to the pleading, not because this woman had a leg to stand on.
Southampton Town officials could be forced to pay $70 million in damages to an East Quogue woman after the town missed the deadline to respond to a federal lawsuit filed by her attorney, charging that she was wrongfully arrested and detained near the entrance to the Air National Guard base in Westhampton nearly two years ago.
