Default For those who may not be familiar with Gordon Heights

For those who may not be familiar with Gordon Heights:

Gordon Heights is a hamlet (an unincorporated community) in the central part of the Town of Brookhaven, in the central part of Suffolk County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Hamlet of Gordon Heights in the Town of Brookhaven is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Coram and the Hamlet of Middle Island; on the east by the Hamlet of Middle Island; on the south by the Hamlet of Yaphank and the Hamlet of Medford; and, on the west by the Hamlet of Coram.

Gordon Heights is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where none of the places in the community have the hamlet name in their mailing address: places in the Hamlet of Gordon Heights have a "Coram, NY 11727" and "Middle Island, NY 11953" mailing address.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County): //www.city-data.com/forum/long-...-resource.html

Well, it seems to me any discussion of geography (community borders, etc.) would benefit from having a map of the village or hamlet being discussed, especially when these villages and hamlets have a different border than the same-named or different-named ZIP code postal zone(s) that serves the village or hamlet being discussed.

The original question in this thread was "Is Centereach a nice town?" Talk about getting off the subject!

Centereach is mixed, there are many areas within the town. You can find hidden little parks and quiet developments around the parks. Expensive large new homes, and 2 blocks away a little hamlet of small converted summer homes. Then there are middle class homes well maintained on large properties. The busy area people talk about are just the mail roads of 25 and 347 and Nickels road. You have many quiet strees and developments beyond the main streets. We have one of the best library in NY, the school district has lots of connections to research and the arts, you make the best of it yourself. The high schools offer extened programs in Suffolk Community College, Stony Brook University. Not many people are aware of things offered in the school district. Because many people donot look beyond route 25, they can not see the hidden community here. It is all north and sounth of the main road. I have lived here for 36 years, crime is miminal and my son went to an Ivy Leage College, received his PHd. His friends from the MCSD went to Ivy Leage and high rated colleges and have great jobs. So the school district is how you use it and the area has lots to offer if you use it. Our area is very quiet, we are 10 minuets to Stony Brook University Hospital and 20 min to 2 other private hospitals. Ten minuets to LIRR, 20min to Islip Airport. It is a great place to live if you do your research and find the beautiful little hamlets hidden safely in Centereach that is affortable for the average middle class family.

As Centereach itself is a hamlet in the Town of Brookhaven, are you referring to neighborhoods in Centereach?

Sean - where did you get those maps? Are they online or did you scan it? If you scanned it, would you mind scanning some more of it, covering the Lake Grove, Centereach, Lake Ronkonkoma area?

Are you sure they had radiant heat (pipes running throughout the slab, which warm the slab) and not baseboard? I looked at many of the Levitt homes in SB and could have sworn they had baseboard. Although I have heard that people needed to break up the slab due to leaks in the piping (which still run through the slab).
