Hope someone can help me! My mom grew up in Southampton. She is in her 80's and can't get out there. For Christmas, I would like to put together a scrap book type thing of the Hamptons. Other than contacting the Historical Society, does anyone know where I can get older info on the area? Pictures, articles, websites, anything! You can reply through here or email me privately at Luannf19057@yahoo.com
Thanks all!

You might also try Dan's Papers and the Rogers Memorial Library.

For those who may not be familiar with Southampton:

It is important to know that there are 3 "Southamptons" (from smallest to largest, in order of acreage):

1. There is the Village of Southampton;

2. There is the "Southampton, NY 11968" postal zone, and it includes the Village of Southampton and parts of an adjacent hamlet and an Indian reservation within its service area; and,

3. There is the Town of Southampton, and it includes 6 villages and 17 hamlets as well as the "Southampton, NY 11968" postal zone and other postal zones, within its borders.

Southampton is a village (incorporated in 1894) in the south-central section of the Town of Southampton, in the southeast part of Suffolk County.

Beginning on the north and moving in a clockwise direction, the Village of Southampton in the Town of Southampton is bordered on the north by the Hamlet of Tuckahoe, the Hamlet of North Sea and the Hamlet of Water Mill; on the east by the Hamlet of Water Mill; on the south by the Atlantic Ocean; and, on the west by Shinnecock Bay and the Shinnecock Indian Reservation.

The Village of Southampton has a different border than does the "Southampton, NY 11968" postal zone (i.e., a place can have a "Southampton, NY 11968" mailing address and not be in the Village of Southampton and a place can be in the Village of Southampton and have other than a "Southampton, NY 11968" mailing address): places that have a "Southampton, NY 11968" mailing address that are not in the Village of Southampton are in the Shinnecock Indian Reservation and in the Hamlet of Tuckahoe; and, at the same time, there are places in the Village of Southampton that have a "Watermill, NY 11976" mailing address.

For a good set of town-by-town maps showing all the villages and hamlets in each of LI's 13 towns (3 in Nassau County and 10 in Suffolk County):
