Wild mammals on LI

Coots can be seen in our lakes and ponds during the winter. I also spotted a hooded merganser (type of duck) one winter.

The egrets and blue herons are magnificent.

I've seen a scrawny red fox on a nature preserve trail once. We eyeballed each other for a few minutes.

the thrut is LI is wonderful, but after1974 its still affected, i get scare everytime i hear suffolk,
