I voted distorted photos, but another variation on that would be inaccurate representation. Someone just saw the house on Fireside in Setauket and said it was disgusting. The description s/he gave was dreadful. Meanwhile the listing states 'needs TLC' What exactly is meant (in that case) by TLC? Totally loathesome condition?
good timing for this thread. looked at one of the most gorgeous houses I have ever seen today but the view from the bedroom window is of a kfc and a jiffy lube
Ha...just saw a beautiful house today bordering Hempstead...house was immaculate top to bottom, and priced to sell. But I couldn't get over the location. I'd rather pay more for the right locale and do some of the work myself.
it may sound odd but i would do a gut renovation or move into a turnkey house. It seems IME that the houses that require some work remain the same as time goes on because it becomes easy to live with the changes. no variables have added up for me. Seems the most houses we like (victorians, arts & crafts) are in sea cliff (where inventory is limited) or huntington (where the commute is somewhat prohibitive) or in areas where the school district is if varied repute. I start to wonder if we aren't all sold a bill of goods re: school district.
