Hi Everyone,

Can someone suggest good apartments / areas to rent in and around Central Islip, NY?

Does Central Islip has lots of crime? What is the average rent for 1 bedroom apartmemt with washer / dryer in unit and parking included?

Thanks.

Central Islip is really not a great area really, and crime is kinda high there, as opposed to other areas of Long Island....

If I were you I would look somewhere else.

What other areas are good to live in Long Island? I would like to drive only 10-15 miles away from Central Islip,NY if that is possible?

From what I have heard, other areas around the CI (central islip) area that are nice are Hauppauge, Bay Shore (the nicer part), Oakdale, Sayville, Brightwaters, Bayport.....a lot of those towns on the south shore next to islip are very nice.

There is a newer apartment/condo/townhouse complex around the big courthouse building and also the neighborhoods north of Suffolk Ave I don't find to be as bad as the rest of CI..... but in general, Central Islip really isn't a great place to live at all, I couldn't really recommend it.

It is difficult to find a 1 bedroom apartment for rent. It seems like there are few rental apartments in Long Island.

Do you know any other good areas to rent other than what Logical95 mentioned?

West Babylon and Smithtown are very nice, but Smithtown is more than a 15 minute drive to Central Islip....more like 20-25 minutes.

Ronkonkoma is ok, and Bay shore has a nice part near the water south of sunrise highway.

If you are having trouble finding places, look on Craigslist, people list apartments there all the time.

Ronk and Smithtown are fine, Ronk is a little rough by the train station, most of w. Babylon too...Bayshore and E. Patchogue are hit and miss. Your main issue I think will be finding an apartment with a washer and dryer built in. One complex I know of is Spruce Pond in Holbrook, and I think Broadway Knolls also in Holbrook. They both have washer dryers in unit from what I see, and you'd be 15 minutes from CI there.
