Hello all,
I will be moving to Long Island as a new employee of Nassau University Medical Center located in 2201 Hempstead Turnpike, East Meadow, NY 11554.

I am not from the area and thus would like your advice in what areas I should look for an apartment that will be
-under 10-15min drive to my work place
-is safe
- may be in my price range of 1200 $(max) for a 1bedroom/1bathroom or studio

Are there any red-flag areas (ie. unsafe) that I should stay away from in my apartment search.

thanks in advance.

Stay away from Hempstead and New Castle and parts of Westbury.

Look at Mineola, East Meadow, Merrick, Carle Place and Levittown. Mineola will have the most apartment buildings. Other area apartments usually are in 2 family homes or illegal basemnet apartments.

Check with HR. Sometimes the hospitals have some apartments that residents use or that they can rent to employees.

Echoing the same. I was thinking East Meadow and Levittown as well. Would be nice for OP to stay along Hempstead Tpke within 10 or 15 minutes from work. I think Westbury is immediately off, as the good parts are going to cost perhaps more than his/her budget. Garden City as well.

Also stay away from some parts of Uniondale.
