I do not think long island is bad. I moved into blue ridge condos. If you listen to these boards it does not exist here on long island.
I pay in total mortgage ,taxes, and maintanance fees $800 a month for my condo. This is on long island.
I guess if you want to live in a mantion for say $1200 a month then long island is not for you but if you want to live middle class it can be done.
Its a pretty place to live also. Lots of beaches, NYC close by ,Wineries , if your into gabling casinos close also.
The only thing is the traffic BUT everywhere i go i see the same traffic not just LI.

You think the mortgage difference between your condo and a mansion is $400 a month??? Oh, ok.
Try $1200 a month for taxes alone.

PS before anyone complains when i gradutaed from My 4 year degree i had no problem getting a job here.

Really? Cannon? There moving from Nassau to Suffolk. What did LI really gain? There are a lot more companies leaving then coming. Just to add to this statement, word is Arrow has been steadily moving jobs from it's Melville location to Colorado and rumor has it that they will eventually move everything there. That's LI's largest private employer. Score one more for LI.

I love when people complain about Long Island. I think to myself, it could be a whole lot worse, like living in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, etc.

Long Island isn't bad but it certainly is dirty. Ive lived in 4 other areas outside of LI and each one was cleaner with a more modernized housing stock.

Certain areas of LI are dirty, others are not. New doesn't always equate better.
There are many places with 100+ year old structures and they are beautiful and desirable. Too many people are obsessed with having new -- what happens when we run out of buildable land in an effort to satiate the appetite of the gimme a new house type?
