I have said this before, when we bought I was told by the Mortgage department these were the areas I could afford, in a certain price range. I looked until I found a house I liked, did I love it, no, it needed work, I did the work and love it now. Is it the best schools no, is it the worst no would I love to live in Smithtown yes, can I afford that no. This is reality why did people take on so much? When people say oh the house is there or there I can't live there I say to myself okay enjoy your 3,800 dollar a month mortgage and taxes too, do I need a bigger house yes, will it be on LI no, the taxes are too much and I realize what Ican afford.

Many people today seem to not want to take responsbibility for their own actions. It's a terrible trend in this country. There are excuses for everything, in virtually all facets of life. I mean, really, you can't understand that how a loan could become unaffordable if you have an artificially low rate for the first x years, then the rates go variable at market after...you don't read, you don't see what's happening with interest rates when you have a market-driven loan? It's a joke. It's like with credit cards...hello, credit loans are not a right, it's a priviledge. If you don't want to abide by the rules, don't charge, close the card. Don't ring up $1000s in debt when you make $250 per week. Don't be annoyed if the card company charges you fees, as per the contract you signed, when you are late, etc.
It sickens me how people are. This thread...oh, houses are too expensive, it's so overpriced. Well, perhaps it's not since people are paying the prices. Home prices are as close to a market driven product as there is. If you live in Manhattan, you pay more for a reason. If you live in Hempstead, you play less for different reasons. It's kinda like Yogi Berra saying "nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded."

You can still find cheaper taxes in an older home...When I say cheaper, I mean 6k.. That is a shock to anyone from other states.. West Hampton I hear has cheaper taxes, But try to find a job... Port Jefferson Station could be an option...Condo's are the ticket in taxes.. many really nice ones with cheap taxes... I am still moving.. lol...I could tour Europe on what I spend to live here..

wow clamboy, you know about all the dark secrets on LI.
I always say I don't bother to stay in touch with my classmates from high school in PJS, if I wanted to see them I could go to pathmark on 347, they all STILL work there.

Thats funny
PJS wasnt all that bad when I was a kid.
Im not sure what went wrong.
In fact Rocky Point/Sound Beach/Miller Place/Ridge were worse than PJS(Remember the Pagans) in the 80s before they gentrified.
I just noticed the swift decline over the last 8 years or so.
I guess they just wander off the train at the end of the line and call it home.
