I was with State Farm for 2 years, started at around $1,000 premium. They kept raising my premium by 25% 2 years in a row so i switched to Liberty Mutual and now back to paying $1,000 - 10% for having auto with them as well. When asked a rep why my rates go up 25% both years, she just rudely brushed me off "I'm not an actuary, that's what you pay!"

I don't know anything about Narragansett Bay, sorry.

If I got a response like the one above from someone working for a SF agent, I'd certainly let the agent him - or herself know. They don't make money when people leave.

Im not finding too much on the web about them other than Progressive also places homeowners insurance through that company.

Anyone have any experience with Homesite or placing homeowners through Geico?
I don't want to switch if this is nothing more than a teaser premium and it will go up next year. I have had no problem with State Farm or the agent that places that insurance for me.
Last year when we needed Homeowners Ins for the house we were purchasing, we decided to try Geico since my wife has their car insurance. We were given a low quote from Homesite, but I didn't have a good feeling about it. Information was hard to come by, and whatever I did find seemed negative. A broker that my family uses said he had never heard of it or didn't know much about it, which was another red flag. They also seemed a little pushy as if trying to skim through details.

Don't remember the specifics about the coverage offered but overall I was a little concerned and chose to go elsewhere.

See if your State Farm broker will match (or better) Geico's prices. My SF broker did better on Geico's prices to get me back for auto in addition to homeowner's insurance.

I might give him a call but I allowed the agent to price my auto insurance last year and it was not competitive. It's worth a phone call at least.

I am very leary of moving to Homesite. There really isnt a lot of info about them and the quote sheet I obtained by email didn't even have a return address to the agent I was dealing with.

I don't blame you. Even I'm not cheap enough to move to "no name" company for homeowner's insurance. I have State Farm and they are very good. I'd rather rely on them if something should happen. Who wants to be nickle and dimed by some no name company?

I also am racking my brains to remember this, but there were some posts on the forum awhile back where people were saying that not all homeowner's insurance companies are "fully" protected in NYS and if one should go bankrupt or something happens and they cannot pay the claims, if it IS "fully" protected in NYS, you are still covered. If not, your coverage is worth nothing if something should happen to your insurance company's ability to pay claims.

Someone help me out here on this ... I know I read something like this on the LI forum but it was awhile back.

I found this post explaining what I was saying more:

If you aren't comfortable don't switch now. You can shop your insurance around any time, not just at renewal time....even if your premiums are paid as part of your mortgage. Take your time and see what's what.

I think OBH is insured with Narragansett Bay, not sure if she's had a claim though.

I don't know why I wasn't quoted closer to $1200. I got a quote of $1650. Maybe I didn't enter all the correct information on the online quote or maybe I get a more accurate one if I call Geico. I heard $1200 is a good price but we will have an in ground pool (no diving board) Geico didn't ask about a diving board. I would think not having a board would lower the premium. Guess i need to shop around

GEICO car insurance is great.

Some of the renters/homeowners policies are from companies that specialize in cell phone and appliance warrantees.

Do not hook up with these turds. I found Amica a great insurer.
