Anyways, your chances of getting killed or beaten walking through Wyandanch or Brentwood are still VERY slim too, unless you go around asking/looking for trouble; most people won't mess with you if you don't mess with them, no matter where you're at for the most part. The MOST you will get is maybe some people staring at you, since seeing that is not too common.
This is very true in most cases unless you walk past somewhere where you know will bring you trouble.

Agreed. I've lived in a few other parts of the country and most of them reminded me of the Long Island from years ago. More down to earth. Long Island has become very materialistic. Nothing wrong with owning nice things, but to suggest that someone is "white trash" simply because they don't have the latest and the greatest material possessions is a little ridiculous.
White Trash is more a measure of a person's mentality, not their bank account. For example, we had Long Island neighbors who lived in a 6-bedroom house and had "the latest and the greatest" of everything. Yet they were horrible neighbors. Very loud music, misbehaved teenagers, they let their small dogs run all over the neighborhood. One of our other neighbors found one of their dogs and went over to let them know. Their response? "Keep him, we don't care."

Rocky Point, Selden and Centereach are far from hood folks. Lets get real.

Centereach is a nice area with middle class (mostly blue collar types). You don't have to worry, should you have to walk down MCR that someone is going to accost you in any way (although you may have to worry about the cars speeding past).
I think the areas that qualify for this list should be the ones where you can't leave your house after dark.
This is a really ignorant statement. Obviously you are forgetting that this country was founded by immigrants, but these ones are different because they are not white? I'm not saying every white person is ignorant like this but you know that's life.
True. The island is changing and what was once the white majority is diminishing and it is scary to many. It is creeping into all towns, however, the ones where rentals are available and affordable will see the first of this new mix. The latino people moving into my neighborhood (in Centereach) actually keep their homes BETTER than many others. Hopefully they raise their children to be just as disciplined and hardworking as they are.
