I live in Islip about 2 blocks from the border of East Islip. I am about 3 blocks from the east Islip Applebees. Islip, West Islip and East Islip are good choices but West Islip and East Islip can have $10,000-$12,000 in taxes in some parts. I am in regular Islip not Islip Terrace which IMO is crap.

You can find out in which community (city, village or CDP) a house is actually located, which is oftentimes different from the community named in that house's mailing address, by using the Census Bureau's online address search function. (CDP, or Census Designated Place, is the Census Bureau equivalent for a hamlet in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.)

And, very importantly, among other things, the Census Bureau's online address search function also indicates in which school district an address is located.

I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to put my two cents out on this. I purchased my home on Peary Street last year and despite all on the nonsense of what I kept reading, the home IS in West Babylon as Wyandanch is a further down. It saddens me to hear that people "dont mind" diversity.. as I take this as you do mind it. But I digress... Peary Street does not have run down homes. It is a beautiful block, with wonderful neighbors, which half are law enforcement. SO, if anyone wanted to "feel safe", well I guess this is the right block. AND BTW - Street Lifestyle happens in every culture, not just the ones that want to be pointed out. I am happy that I bought my house on Peary with normal down to earth neighbors, and not people who "dont mind" diversity.
