Can anyone recommend a good/fair priced place to buy top soil around N. Massapequa? I've been going to this nursery on Broadway for my gardening needs, but always feel that i am getting ripped off. I pay around $36 for a "yard" of soil + delivery, but i am not confident i am getting a full cubic yard. What if they decide to give you less? I once had this landscaper tell me it didn't look like a full yard to him. Is there a way i can confirm i am getting what i am paying for? Is like going to the deli ordering a pound of bolonga and blindly paying for it assuming you did get the full pound without looking at the scale or getting the sticker. As you can see i don't really like to trust that people are doing the right thing. Any suggestions out there. I am going to need between 2 and 3 yards.

Thank you

oh my god...worrying about dirt...ITS DIRT..if you're so worried that he is cheating you out of some dirt then go buy it by the bag full in Home Depot and load it in your car.

If it's the guy on Broadway, north of the Southern State, he is so expensive he has no need to cheat you out of soil.

and.....what expert told you by eyeballing the delivery it wasn't a full yard?

See...i am the non-conformist kind. Is not that i am worried about some dirt; i am maybe a little worried about trusting a system that works to the advantage of the business owner. What if i told the guy...."oh by the way i am short $10.00, so let's make it $90.00 instead of $100.00, you are not going to worry about 10 bucks..now are ya." How well do you think that will work? If i am paying for 1 yard; i'd expect to get one yard...it is as simple as that. By the way i wasn't really looking for a debate on the subject; i think there are plenty of threads here where you do that.
Don't remember mentioning anything about any experts.....

Ok, so you are one of those people always thinking some business is out to screw everyone. If you are so worried about that..then go buy it by the bag at Home Depot..or perhaps find a way to measure it yourself upon delivery. Geez..

Now that you have assessed the type of person i am given the vast amount of information i've provided you (e.g. two sentences about buying topsoil), let me go ahead and venture to say that you are probably the type of person who enjoys arguing about non-sense. It also seems your reading comprehension is a little lacking. I mean...you are using words like "always" and "everyone" to describe who i am...i think you may want to read things over again......it is ok some people are slower than others......take your time reading now.

Does anyone have anything constructive to add? Really...any suggestions on where to go for topsoil other than HD or Lowes? thanks

Yeah...drive a few blocks south on Broadway and there is another nursery on the left hand side. I hear they don't shortchange anyone on dirt.
