Deans In in Islip hands down. I go there once a week. Very fresh and you can get cooked meals, salads, soups to go. I had their homeade lobster bisque and it was very good. Th salmon is excellent as well as the shrimp. They will clean and devein them for you. My hubsband loves their octopus salad. They are off of main Street right down the road from the J&R's steak house on the left. Infact a I posted the same thread on here like a week ago LOL.

the question I have is...how do you know its from local fisherman and not the Hunts Point in the Bronx. Not to say Hunts Point is a bad thing...its one of the biggest markets in the world. Other than asking the fish market owner, and taking his word for it, I don't know of another way of finding a place that uses only local fisherman.

The days of a true local caught fish is long gone unless you travel to the Port of Marina Grande in Sorrento Italy.
Dean's is the best place for the freshest fish. I treat myself occasionally to the smoked eel.A tasty treat down memory lane.

It would be easier to come to Palm Beach County, Florida. Heck, you can buy it right off the boats when they come in. Or go to the local fish markets and get it there.

I spent 43.00 the other day at deans but it was well worth it for a pound of shrimp, 1lb salmon fillet, and 2 soups.

I like Southold market. They seem to have catch from local fisherman, along with many other things. I got some good blackfish from there. If you go on a weekday, they are not so busy, and they are willing to tell you what the local fisherman brought in. Are you not from the Suffolk County area? Just curious. I have also gone to Brauns in Cutchogue, but prices are higher.

Land and Sea Fish Market in Mount Sinai is extremely popular. I have seen the line to get in during the holiday seasons literally go all the way down the block.
