I am so sick of the taxi companies at Babylon train station. I understand that train stations are a cash cow to taxi services, but how about a little courtesy to the community?
Everytime I drive there to drop off/pick up my wife, I see them cutting people off, running stop signs, not yielding to the right-of-way, stopping in the middle of the road next to the station to pick up/drop off fares rather than pulling up to the curb, and leaving their doors open while waiting OUTSIDE their cab so you have to be extra careful driving around them or risk damage to your and their vehicles.
Even though they have their own desginated parking spots close to the station, they still feel the need to take up all of the other free spots by the curb. But heaven forbid you park in one of their spots. Several of them will come up to you and tell you to move your car.
And what is this scam they have with other cab companies? I once took a cab from Babylon RR to the Fire Island ferries in Bay Shore. Coming back, the taxi co. in Bay Shore wanted to charge me more than double what I paid to get there. And after calling the Babylon taxi co. for a ride back, they told me they couldn't pick me up and I HAD to use the Bay Shore taxi. Long story short: I walked a mile down the road and called another cab co. to pick me up. Paid more than Babylon but alot less than Bay Shore.
Dealing with these companies makes you appreciate the yellow cab in NYC more.

Welcome to Long Island. Almost all taxi companies at LIRR stations are like this. Take a look at Valley Stream and Long Beach. Terrible.

Is it a foreign thing maybe? Sorry, someone had to say it.

I mean, I assume they're mainly foreign, so maybe they drive like they're back in their own country with less social courtesy rules. I've been at bus stations in Mexico,Europe, and the Mid. East, and it's a also a nightmare there.

So they're no different than your average Long Island driver.

And everytime I get off the train they are yelling "TAXI CAB" over and over again. I've only seen this heckling on Long Island, and never in Jersey or in Westchester.

Well, I've been to Hoboken which is pretty urban NJ and fairly compatible to some LI stations and I've never seen them yelling "Taxi". They're just there - all lined up.

A couple of friends of mine & parents of one used to drive for them in the mid '70s.
One got in a wreck due to no brakes.

That was an expense to maintain the cabs properly and the almighty dollar was the cry.
