I took good care of my home, watered my lawn and paid for professional landscaping and he would park his eyesore (which he had every legal right to do) right in front. Then I had another knucklehead next door who one year put up christmas icicles on his house and left them up ever since year-round. I live on Long Island for god's sake - not Appalachia! White-trash folk just go around assuming everyone else thinks they're quaint or homey....They're not! And I think when we file tax grievances, we should be able to submit pictures of the neighbors and an explanation of how they're reducing our property values!

Sorry, I just had to rant. And sorry that I can't give you a solution to your problem. But just know that I'm right there with you.
O Borther heres another 1 We Get it you Think you Better then everybody else but your really Hardly Equal

Do I have any options? It is poorly contstructed, awful to look at, trashy but is on their property.

I hate to be the bad guy, i realize it is for their kids but it is completely unreasonable. It resembles a shanty put up in the woods by the homeless.

Where can I go now that they have refused to take it down.

Just want to be clear this isnt cute or quant--it looks like garbage nailed to a tree.

Thanks.
Don't worry. Hurricane season is right around the corner and should take care of your problem .

Unless you're a socialist, and opposed to private property, which I doubt, your logic is flawed, or more likely, non-existent and simply an emotional reaction similar to a child kicking and screaming because he's not getting his way.

Care to explain how dictating what your neighbors property looks like is consistent with the "American Way" and private property? Is your reasoning on this subject a logical series of steps form a core belief or is it simply one of many contradictory beliefs cobbled together to make sure you always have a rationalization.

No one WANTS their neighbors house to look like crap, but sometimes it happens. That's life in a community, people are different. You're free to live in the woods if you want and not have to deal with it. You are NOT free to harass those around you who don't share your values.
I'll dumb this down for those that need it:

Renters don't know what it's like to invest in a neighborhood and see neighbor's stupid and irresponsible decisions affect their massive investment.

Those who claim they've owned a home but merely have had the same home willed to them (and their siblings) after each parent's death don't know what it's like to own a home because that was a gift, not their own investment in a community.

Those who own but in dumpy areas cannot relate because they knew going in exactly what they were getting.

Yes, all 3 can have an opinion but unless you've been throught it and had some "skin in the game" you just cannot relate.

And yet, none of that has any bearing on private property rights.

Yes, we all must scrimp and save and suffer because someone else has to, otherwise we could never know what it's like to have property next to that of a tacky person. And of course, we must hate those who had the smarts and good fortune to get out of the rat race and work for themselves at a young age. If you aren't slaving away at a job that renders you subservient to a boss who can dictate your fate, you can't possibly know what hard work is. Shame on you, Dave, for not demanding that we all conform to the life of a middle-class drone.
Who said scrimp and suffer (aside from you)? I said work hard and save up - bottom line is those who generally use their own hard earned money to invest in a neighborhood have a greater stake, both financially and emotionally in that neighborhood. Generally speaking, having a house gifted to you and your siblings does not give you the same "skin in the game" as if you would have purchased the house on your own. Simple concept

Also, who said anything about hating those who got out of the rat race? I'm talking about those crazy types who can't get along with co-workers or bosses and can't hold a steady job. I have lots of respect for those who truly venture out on their own and take the chance. I think too many people fall into the crazy type category I mentioned before but use the excuse that they are "getting out of the rat race".

Yes, but that wasn't the impetus for my initial post, it was about renters commenting on an issue that they cannot relate to
