Im a 17 male and I live in both westbury and mineola. I go back and forth but my girlfriend lives in greenlawn. I don't have a car because I dont have my license and getting rides are scarce. How would I go upon doing this. I have only took the train to the city and that is pretty simple but for greenlawn I think I have to take a transfer train at huntingstation. Now is huntingstation that dangerous? I most likey will be taking trains at around 12 pm and departure trains at around 7 pm. What I am asking is how do I get to greenlawn and is huntington station dangerous?

As long as you stay in the LIRR station itself in Huntington its not too bad. Yes the area around the station is bad and you dont want to be venturing around there, but the train station itself is pretty busy with regular people.
Going to and from Greenlawn is not too hard as most trains connect to the diesels at Huntington.

The LIRR Port Jefferson Branch passes through Mineola, Westbury, and Greenlawn. The schedule is below:

Some trains terminate at Huntington Station, so when one comes by, just don't get on: Wait for a train that continues to Port Jefferson.

On a side note, Greenlawn is the stop after Huntington Station, so if somebody can pick you up from Huntington Station, that would make it a lot easier for you.

If you want an easier way to check the schedules than browsing through that entire timetable, just go to the LIRR website and punch in Mineola (or Westbury) to Greenlawn plus the departure time & date. It'll tell you everything you need to know including the transfer info. Looks like some trains you'll have to change at Huntington, others at Hicksville. If you have the option, it'll be better to leave from Mineola since more Port Jeff Branch trains stop there. You only need to get one ticket from the machine, and it won't cost anything more to transfer than a direct trip would.

The Huntington train station itself is fine, perfectly safe. There are some areas in Huntington Station (the town) that aren't too great, but you'll never even get off the train platform so no worries. Shouldn't take any more than 10 minutes at most anyway.

Good luck!

PS - If you forget what time the return trip leaves, you can also text "Greenlawn to Mineola" to 266266. I just discovered this feature and now I use it all the time. It works for any station combination, and it's free!

If your girlfriend has a car can't she pick you up at HUntington? Many places in Greenlawn are very close to the Huntington train station. Seems like your easiest option.

Otherwise you are fine hanging around the station.
