Just because it hasn't happened yet doesn't mean it won't. During the Cold War we did build fallout shelters, did do bomb drills, etc. I really don't think anything is going to happen any time soon, but it is always good to prepare. I don't stock up MREs or canned foods, but I personally do try to learn something new once in a while that could be applied to more than sitting on my chair at home
