Someday Long Island will be a place for the rich! The average middle class American can't afford 10k a year in taxes. Especially if you are unemployed.
I was just in SC and on a 200k home your yearly taxes are about 300-500 dollars a year!
We left LI in 2004 for Traverse City, MI. We hate the heat & love the snow so we moved to a place that gets 100"+ of snow each winter and has the nicest summers in the lower 48. My wife went to Michigan State and has friends who live up here. No regrets at all.) Living the dream
It will be interesting to see how many people are left on Long Island 10 years from now. I heard about 49,000 people move off Long Island each year. I wonder if this is true. I mean your taxes can only go so high before your income can't keep up and you have no disposable income left!

We are thinking southern nj as another option. I know we can't afford to go back to long island
Where is Gladsonbury? Our taxes are 7,000 for a townhome (2,000 sq feet plus huge basement and two car garage) in a great school district. Taxes are comparable to Long Island but you get a lot more property for the money.
We moved to Ann Arbor, MI when we initially left almost 20 years ago. We returned when my wife graduated and lived in the City for 7 years. We decided to leave for good and settled in Austin, TX 6 years ago. Haven't looked back but I do get nostalgic now and then.
I'm not a fan of the Carolinas and would never want to live there. Well, some parts are nice but it's not for me. Never been to FL.

North Carolina, Florida and Pennsylvania. Every person I know who moved from Long Island moved to one of those three places, and in six months I'm moving to North Carolina as well, to a community that is predominantly made up of former Long Islanders.
Whoops thought you meant "where IN Glastonbury". Glastonbury is a nice suburb of Hartford CT
