Most beaches are free in the early morning and late afternoon, but I know that Rockaway Beach is free all the time.

Rockaway Beach may be free, but you sometimes need to get lucky in finding parking. Also, depending on how you get there, you will need to pay a toll. (I heard there's a toll-less way, but I haven't gone that way)

Ha! Free and LI don't go in the same sentence, they'll always find a way to impose a tax. Went to Siesta Key last month. Didn't pay a dime for the beach nor the parking.

Through Far Rockaway, from Nassau County. Takes a long time though, lights and traffic.

It's pretty silly to expect that you deserve a free beach just because you live on an Island. Most of that land is privately owned and for good reason, to protect the shoreline.

I think if you have to pay it should be double what they charge considering they ship the sand in from South Carolina.

Oh, you mean by building artificial canals so wannabe rich people can live "on the water"?
