So my wife's friends moved here from NJ last night, she now lives in Long Beach (wife is from NJ also). So Mrs daveoliva went to visit her and they ended up hanging out on the beach behind her new place into the late night. LBPD rolls up and gives them $50 tickets for being on the beach after hours, although it's directly behind my wifes friends house. When Mrs daveoliva, like any fascist hating freedom lover, questioned the officer about whether he could simply not give them the ticket and they would just leave he actually called for backup. With two LBPD to escort two dangerous and young women off the beach the story ends there. So, new LIer learns her first night here that LI is the place where EVERYTHING is illegal. What kind of place are we living in?

You've stated that they were on the beach after hours.
They were breaking the law and were ticketed. How is that fascist?
If the LEO gave everyone a warning to leave the beach, as opposed to a ticket, there would be many more people like your wife and friend breaking the law.
If that were a bunch of rowdies hanging out on the beach behind your wife's friends house, and wife's friend was trying to sleep, or was concerned for her safety -- would she call the cops?
I lived In Malverne and they have their own police, you cannot park in the street overnight unless you call and get their permission, I had freinds over once leaving my mom's house at 2:00 am. They were Stopped by Malverne PD and questioned as to their where abouts and where they were heading next. Friggin ridiculous. It's summer it was a beautiful night out who cares? It's not like they were playing loud music and doing drugs.
yeah it sucks there are laws like this but maybe the cop really wanted to keep his job, but then things escalated when he was being opposed. And then he just turned out to be a dick (if what you're saying is 100% true).
You're just sore because you have to cough up $50.
The taxpayers own the beach, vote in the government which sets the laws, and pay for the PD to patrol both city and beach. Long Beach was a real armpit going back 30 years ago when laws were more lax.
A major concern with beaches at night is safety. People on the beach swimming without a life guard open the city to liability.
Are your wife and her friend planning to use the 'facist' court system to fight their tickets? Perhaps they can drag the ACLU into it and pull the cute young chick card? After all, cute young chicks on the beach after hours don't deserve tickets.
My friend's son is one of those hipster types who drops words like fascism and is into sticking it to the man. Yet when he knocked up his girlfriend, he had no problem whatsoever in exploiting the system to his benefit.

The thing is they are both from a place where you CAN hang out on the beach, this was the girls first night here, and my wife doesn't know LB regulations.
. I found the laws in 1 minute via Google. I am not from LB, either. Last time I was there (30 years ago) there were signs posted near the entries on the boardwalk stating the closing time. In their absence a quick Google or call to the City Hall would have sufficed.
There are plenty of things which are legal in other places and not here -- ignorance of thevlaw is no excuse for breaking it.

Hearing just one side of the story, and reading your not-so-nice language, one can only imagine your wife and her friend were so sweet and polite.
Look, I hate tickets, but if I put myself in a position that deserves one, I own up to it instead of making excuses and blaming everyone else. It's called being an adult.

No, I wouldn't, because it's not my concern what people do when they are not on my property.

You clearly don't understand the nature of totalitarianism or fascism. All of the unjust BS in these system is LEGAL. No, why fight it, what's the point? Cute young chicks, and anyone else, don't deserve tickets for being on the beach after hours. And I'm glad she wasn't polite, the pig didn't deserve any respect because he's clearly a thug. Yes, they "broke the law", but the law is BS. You must be one of the people who thanks every cop that gives you a ticket. Thank you officer, have a nice day.
