Cheap johns was one of my first jobs, I worked in the cigg and film booth in the back.
I do remember Mid Island store in PJ and the mildew type smell.
Billy Blakes, I was real young though
The Fox theatre
The dollar theatre in Port Jeff.. I forget the actuall name?
Levels or something of the sort, it was a teen club.
I like this thred it brings back some memories..
The Mid Island Department Store in Port Jefferson smelled like mildew because the roof always leaked like a sieve and the rainwater soaked into the carpets !
I had my picture ( long since lost ) taken with BATMAN / Adam West at Billy Blakes back in the 60's.
The Fox Theater was one of the best movie houses around in it's day. The first movie I ever saw there was DRACULA HAS RISEN FROM THE GRAVE when I was about 8 years old.
The dollar theater was The Brookhaven. When I was young , and long before it became a dollar theater , it was managed by a brother and sister who hated kids ( and we kids hated them too ! ).
Levels was in Medford and was a dance club for adults. I think you may be thinking of Razzles which was a disco dance club for teens. It was in Mount Sinai in a little strip mall on Nesconset Highway.
Cheap Johns then became I think Wise Buys, but that place didn't last long
Finast supermarket was either before or after Edwards became Stop and Shop
Brent City had a store in Port Jeff Station, and I think Brentwood as well (is that gonna start that other thread back up lol?)
Comp USA
Best Yet was called something before that, the name is on the tip of my tounge!
Twin Donut
Didn't have a chance to go through every posting. Did anyone mention Consumers/Service Merchandise where you had to order out of a catalog? I used to love going there with my dad when I was a kid.
