Coming to a pond near you...

With all of the rain we've been having, it's safe to say that many of us have standing water nearby. The article contains tips on what to do.

Also, if you have bird baths, you can get a Water Wiggler, a little device that creates ripples in the water so mosquitoes won't lay their eggs there.

I've gone around flipping over the dog bowls and bird baths. Let things dry out for a while.

This summer was pretty brutal on some nights/early mornings. Almost feels like a war at times, with the skeeters winning when there's no breeze outside. I've been encouraging spiders to stick around in my backyard. There are ways to deter them like OFF, but if someone want's to be the next billionaire, invent a fool-proof way to deter them, kill them, without attracting more to your yard and without having to constantly spray OFF (which doesn't always work).

Has the county (nassau or suffolk) sprayed at all this year? I haven't seen one truck spray.

No, I haven't. And I'm happy about it.
imho the reaction of carpet bombing everybody everywhere is way out of proportion to the risks of West Nile virus.

That's what made me think of it in the first place, actually. I noticed water on my deck furniture from last night's storm.

I don't know if Suffolk sprayed or if it was just my complex laying down insecticide, but I recall getting a notice earlier this summer advising us to keep the windows closed for 24 hours and keep pets indoors.

My neighbor found a dead bird in his yard about a month ago. It tested positive for West Nile. Makes me nervous.

they need to spray, the mosquitoes are out in full force. I have at least 15 bites this summer. One of my kids has more. I go outside for literally 1 minute this morning to do something on the deck and I return with 1 more to add to my collection.
